What are a good pair of running shoes that absorb impact and look casual for walking around?

I am walking a lot in London on hard surfaces and have been told that running trainers are better than walking trainers as they are lighter and have softer soles.

I need a pair that are waterproof, have good shock absorbing or cushioning in the soles, and are not too expensive. I don't know if those air bubble type soles are really just marketing - I need something that is very soft though.

Also, I would like them to look casual as I am not really using them for running and don't want them to look too sporty. I'm a fashion victim as it is.

Any suggestions for particular trainers or even shops in NW London or the west end would be appreciated.

You could look in these stores:

The Londonmarathon shop (Addidas stuff)

The Nike shop (Nike stuff - surprisingly!)

In Bluewater try HeRunsSheRuns (most brands)

As an alternative, you could try somewhere like Blacks and find some walking shoes - designed for walking about it!

Though as with a lot of things, you canbe a victim of fashion or get what you need but rarely get them both
Reply:I wear asic's excellent for balance and shock absorption the ones i wear are not waterproof though. I would recommend asic's though if you can find a waterproof type you will notice the difference to other brands.
Reply:it is very much depending on your feet. All the brand names shoes have good impress on runners. You need to try on to feel which one does fit your feet.
Reply:Try the asics gt-2130's. They have support and some cushioning. They are good shoes and they look nice to walk around in. Usually they sell for about $95. Or if you go on www.eastbay.com they have discount shoes (look for 2120 or 2110 and they will be cheaper than the 2130 but they are basically the same thing just the older model which I actually like better). I hope this was helpful.
Reply:A "good" pair of running shoes are ONLY for running! Walking in a running shoe is bad for you AND bad for the shoe itself.

I'd look at a nice pair of cross-training shoes, if I were you. They'll be better than a walking shoe, but they're not going to compromise a lot of the features for walking. I like Asics and New Balance for brands..
