I am flat footed, and i need help with finding the most comfortable casual and gym shoes i can buy?

olewui,

For gym shoes, you would want what is called a "motion control" shoe. Running shoes/gym shoes come in three basic constructions:

Neutral shoes for high arches

Stability shoes for average arches

Motion Control shoes for low arches or flat feet.

The really good motion control shoes, ones that start at about $85 US, would include:

Asics Gel Evolution (I really like Asics)

Asics Gel Foundation

Nike Air Cesium

Brooks Addiction

Brooks Beast

New Balance 1010

Saucony Grid Stabil

If you were going to run or to play basketball, do something vigorous or strenuous, I would recommend these shoes. They are specifically made for low arches.

If you were looking for a comfortable shoe for walking, then your choices are even larger. You easily could use one of the better stability shoes such as:

Asics 2120

Asics Gel Kayano (but this one is one of the most expensive)

Asics Gel-1120

Adidas Supernova (Control or Classic)

Brooks Adrenaline

Brooks Trance

Saucony Trigon

Saucony Progrid Omni

Saucony Progrid Hurricane

Nike Zoom Elite

New Balance 767 or 857

You see, there are a lot of shoes to choose from. Once you decide on the type of shoe you need, try on several different ones in that type to see which fits you best. Thy're all just a little different. Some are narrower, some are narrower in the heel and wider in the toe. Some are softer, some a little firmer. All will be very good to walk or run in.

I buy running shoes, which last about 500 miles. Then I buy new ones and make the old ones my walking shoes. They are extremely comfortable to walk in, even after they've been pounded for a few months. They'd be even better new.

As far as casual shoes go, not too many of those are made with low arches in mind. If your arches hurt after a long day of standing and walking in them, and if you have to wear those instead of running shoes, you might look very seriously into a very good set of insoles, ones made by a company that specializes in them. Neovita does that here in the States, but a podiatrist could do so. They wil be a bit expensive, but they will be worth it.

Reply:Me too! I wear Reeboks. I am a gal so I wear the princess style. I went to a podiatrist and had an insert made to make my foot have an arch that has helped sooooo very much.
Reply:visit a shoe store called the Walking Company.
